In this paper, we present a novel and general method to solve the problem of using a general-purpose robot manipulator with a parallel gripper to wrap ropes around a rigid rod. This method is based on a parameterized canonical motion and does not require knowledge of the rope or the rod. It uses RGB-D images to estimate the state of the rope and rod, evaluates the wrapping outcome, and generates feedback from the outcome to improve motion planning. We tested our method with 6 combinations of ropes and rods. The result shows that our general method applies to different ropes and rods very well.
